Heritage Open Day
14th September 2019
10:00- 12:00
The Church will be open from 10am - 12pm offering the opportunity to see the historic village of Burwell and its castle from the top of the tower and to explore parts of the history that are not usually open to the public.

The hidden brass in the Chancel of John de Warboys, last Abbot of Ramsey, will be uncovered for brass rubbing and there will be displays of the famous roof carvings, which include unicorns, elephants and other exotic animals. Tower tours will give the opportunity to see the workings of the bells and the clock as well as the views from the top and some ancient graffiti.

Visitors will be able to hear tales from local storyteller, Malcolm Busby. Children will be able to make and decorate their own ‘St Mary’s’ or build one out of Lego. Members of the St Mary’s Preservation Trust, celebrating its 40th Anniversary, will explain their role in caring for this beautiful old building.

This is a free event
